iFlytek Launches SparkDeski || Flytek, a technology company from China, has launched SparkDesk, a generative model language AI that is expected to be a competitor to ChatGPT. During its launch event, SparkDesk showcased seven key features of the chatbot, and promised to be continuously updated until it can outperform ChatGPT in October.

Quoting from CGTN, the seven features include problem solving, logical deduction, coding, and multimodal understanding, all of which are considered very important in the development of AI chatbots.

Liu Qingfeng, President of iFlytek said the model aims to surpass ChatGPT’s ability to understand Chinese and reach its standard in English. Interest in generative AI has surged since ChatGPT was released by Open AI in November last year. In recent months, Chinese tech companies including Baidu, Alibaba and Huawei have announced their own AI models and released similar chatbots.
“This is a trend that all tech companies should embrace and this breakthrough requires long-term efforts and continuous innovation” said Liu.

Liu Qingfeng, President of iFlytek, demonstrated SparkDesk’s ability to assess student essay writing, write corporate emails and create stories, all of which can be done through voice commands.

Liu claims SparkDesk has better performance than ChatGPT in text generation, as well as the ability to answer knowledge-based questions and math calculations in Chinese.

According to Liu, the emergence of AI like this will open up new opportunities for traditional jobs, empowering creative people to become entrepreneurs in the digital economy. However, the rapid growth of AI also raises concerns. Even Geoffrey Hinton, an important figure in AI development, resigned from Google due to concerns about AI capabilities in chatbo ts.

Hinton expressed concern that AI could potentially become more intelligent than humans and considered the difference between biological and digital systems to be huge. According to him, a significant difference lies in the ability of digital systems to copy models, allowing multiple copies of the same model to be created.
